So I’m not a woman. I’m a transgender woman which is something you’ll never be. We are rare and gifted. We have on average better mathematics skills than the general population. Randomly, we also tend to be more left handed. In other cultures than the cesspool of western civilization, we were treated with respect and reverence. In many cultures, “two-spirit” or berdache or Hijira people were treated as though they were a creation of nature and not some perversion.

Oh, and my mom is more female and proud than you’ll ever be. She has fought in the male world every day of her life, and she taught me patience, tolerance, assertiveness, and forgiveness. I know you all want this pseudo-Marxist fantasy which was founded on Hegelianism  and Kant’s writings before him where human nature is perfectly pliable and shapeable, but all science is saying the opposite these days. So, I had an interesting Twitter exchange today with someone named @radscummy. It was just laughable. Look I have much bigger problems in my life than someone calling me “man” or “sir.” And this just happened to be her only line of attack. Yeah, you gotta be way more creative than that to get…

Huh? Whenever someone says “Which you obviously have no idea about” from a 100 word blog post or really like 3 sentences, my eyes roll out of my head. Also I can’t tell what your position is.

I did sort of think about a possible contradiction there. My position is that sex is biological according to genitalia, and gender is manifest in our consciousness. Gender is still a valuable concept if the patriarchal system persists because we cannot speak in a vacuum without context. Also, the masculine and feminine are valuable concepts to explain human behavior. I could say I was no-gender I suppose. However, there is a definite spectrum between the extremes, and I wanted to imply that I consider myself to be about right in the middle. It’s a difficult concept that cannot be overly simplified and reduced to sound bytes.

Second, the thrust (you love that word huh?) of my post was about how banal the conversations are when I’m talking to RadFem people. When one can be disarmed so quickly with simple verbal parries, you know you’re not talking to an adult but rather a person with a low level of consciousness.

She literally called me man as an insult about 10 times in a row. I’m much more offended by the thought of being ignorant than the thought of being masculine.

Lastly, don’t say I have no concept of what something is. It’s a poor technique, and you’ll just end of looking foolish.

sex = biological (ie male, female and intersex)

gender = the socially constructed roles, behaviour, activities and attributes that a particular society considers appropriate for men and women (source)

gender is not innate. gender is invented by the patriarchy to oppress and subjugate women. that’s all it is, that’s all it’s there for. radical feminists want to abolish gender and liberate women from the patriarchy.

gender identity is a product of gender. it is not innate, natural or something you’re born with. both gender and gender identity are harmful concepts that oppresses women.

by saying “Welcome to the 21st century girls, where gender is a dying concept.” you are proving that you don’t know what radical feminism is. i’ll say it again - radical feminists want to abolish gender. if gender is a dying concept, we’re the happiest about it.

Of course gender is innate. You sound like a Hegelian. Hormones regulate and contribute to behavior. We are not perfectly free. The mind, body, and spirit cannot be reduced; they are a system. I choose to survey the entirety of the last 10,000 years of society and assess them using basic anthropological methods. There is also much to learn from the animal kingdom outside of humanity. Animals exhibit class distinctions, although they are not necessarily vertical, but might be horizontal.

Also, I think that the principle of specialization of labor should be used in concert with evolutionary biology to help explain the gender distinctions. Individuals tend to be more productive when they are able to specialize, and I believe that evolution takes advantage of this principle. Also, men and women serve distinctly different reproductive functions. Because of the absolute priority of the continuance of the species, do you really think that nature would not want to reinforce gender roles to ensure the protection of newborns?

I also understand statistics, and I use this to help understand humanity. I understand the fallacy of composition and can differentiate between the properties of the group as a whole do not define the abilities of the individual. Therefore, people are free to do and be what they desire because we exist on a spectrum depending on our biological differences and upbringing.

I think radical feminists are a potent voice for change, but I don’t believe that radical feminism is a complete philosophy, so I just disagree with it.

Obviously, the disagreement over the innateness of gender is not something that can be settled from a blog post, and I don’t expect you to agree with me from this. I have a degree in Philosophy, and I’ve spent thousands of hours reading and thinking about it. Just as it took many years for me to arrive at the decision that I am transgender, it takes time to form opinions about the nature of reality.

I wish the best for you and your group, but I respectfully disagree with your fundamental principles. Also, the transphobia emanating from the group is rather disgusting, but I suppose I can see how you would arrive at such a position however flawed it may be.
